A STRATFORD marathon runner will be going the extra mile in aid of a Bromsgrove-based charity.

Liz Hawker, from Redditch, will be running the Shakespeare Marathon next Sunday (April 26) in an attempt to raised more than £400 for the Primrose Hospice Centre of Care.

In the last 18 months Liz has completed three half-marathons each time getting a new personal best. However this will be her first full marathon.

Liz said running a marathon had always been a big goal which became even more real, last November, when her mum was diagnosed with secondary cancer.

She added her mum was first diagnosed in 2002 so when her and her family were told it had returned after 12 years they were devastated especially because it was so unusual.

Liz decided to raise money for the Primrose Hospice because of its brilliant work. Staff from the charity have been supporting her mum with weekly support sessions where she is able to speak to people going through similar experiences.

Liz said: “I know running a marathon is going to be extremely hard work even with the training well under way, but this news gave me more of a reason and made me more determined to make it happen in 2015.

“It’s the very least I can do in order to raise money for a very worthwhile charity.”
