AN STOKE Heath couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at Heathbrook House nursing home on Monday (August 4).

Mary, 90, and David Miller, 91, had a special party which saw them receive a card from the Queen.

The pair who were born and raised in Grimsby tied the knot in 1949 at the Old Clee Church.

During the war David was in the Royal Artillery – he later became a dentist and set up his own practice in his home town.

Mary left school at 16 and started working at Lloyds Bank before she went on to become a teacher.

The happy pair set up their family home in Grimsby and had four children – Tim, Alex, Jonathan and Helen – they moved to Heathbrook in 2013.

As part of the celebrations on Monday, the pair used their old family sword to cut a special cake.

Gail Bessent, senior activities coordinator, said: “They are a very devoted married couple and are still madly in love with each other.”
