ST BASILS is urging families, neighbours and communities to join forces to help young homeless people in Worcestershire.

Staff at the charity have been encouraging residents to get stuck in and follow their lead in hosting a fund-raising summer bake sale.

The money made will be used to help young people access opportunities to secure their futures away from the ‘cycle of homelessness’.

As little as £4 will help one young person get back on their feet by ensuring they can travel to a job interview, £80 will fund a day’s emergency duty response to crisis homelessness and £500 will pay for an entire training programme for eight young people.

Those who contact St Basils in advance of their event will also be entered into a special prize draw.

Fund-raising officer Anne Morton said: “We need the support of our local communities to help us respond quickly to young people in crisis situations.

“Summer events provide the perfect chance to try out a new recipe or do your quick ‘tried and tested’ dish, without then having to eat the whole lot yourself.

“You can try a few, give a few away to the kids and then sell the rest for charity – it’s the perfect ‘guilt free’ solution.”

Residents have until the end of October to email and register their bake sale.
