FORMER Birmingham Poet Laureate and Bromsgrove Green Party candidate Spoz has joined a new Rubery punk rock band.

Spoz has teamed up with his former ‘partner in crime’ Mickey Couch and his mates from Tommy Gun to produce Vaseline who will be playing their first gig at Rubery Royal British Legion tomorrow night (Saturday).

There will be Toppo on drums and vocals, Ratty on guitar and Mickey on bass and vocals, with Spoz on guitar and vocals.

The group specialise in the punk rock of their respective youths and will be belting out songs by artists including The Clash, The Damned, The Jam, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and a few cheeky surprises in between!

Spoz told The Standard: “Our first gig at The Legion in Rubery promises to be a real hoot of a night.

“It’s going to be chock full of 70s punk rock nostalgia, jumping about and strange hair cuts.

“It’s mine and Mickey’s home village and centre of the known universe.

“I will be donating my fee to ‘Rubery in Bloom’ who do great things in Rubery – I reckon they have a great DIY punk ethos”.
