A TEACHER from South Bromsgrove High School has attended the tenth annual teacher’s institute in the Houses of Parliament.

John Holland was selected from more than 100 applicants to attend the ‘once in a lifetime’ event earlier this month.

As part of the scheme, Mr Holland had the chance to meet the Secretary of State for Education under David Cameron’s cabinet Nicky Morgan, participate in question and answer sessions with the speaker and the Lord speaker and hear from Parliamentarians of all parties in both the Commons and Lords.

The week also offered a tour of the palace of Westminster, a chance to watch debates in the chambers, question and answer sessions with members from both houses and a chance to attend sessions to improve the delegates’ knowledge.

John Bercow, MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, said: “I am proud that this excellent scheme continues to provide such an invaluable service.

“Better engagement and dialogue with young people is of fundamental importance to our democracy, and I am sure that the teachers who attended the event found it both useful and enlightening.”
