THE SHOWHOME on a new housing development on Bromsgrove’s Oakalls estate has been officially opened by local councillor Caroline Spencer.
Oakalls Grange, created by Newland Homes on land alongside Regents Park Road, consists of three, four and five bedroom homes.
There was controversy surrounding the building of new properties on The Oakalls and several planning applications from various developers were rejected by Bromsgrove District Council, decisions supported by local residents.
But Newland, which proposed building fewer homes on the plot than previous applications, was successful in gaining planning permission in June last year. The scheme was hailed as being in keeping with the local area and Newland held several consultations with the public, amending details based on residents’ feedback.
Building began in September and by the time the sales office opened in May, a quarter of the 20 properties had already been sold.
Coun Spencer has worked tirelessly to encourage a strong community spirit on The Oakalls, including being a member on the committee which planned the Jubilee picnic in 2012 and helping co-ordinate the annual carol concert for the last three years.
She said: “Bromsgrove is a very desirable place to live and The Oakalls has always been a popular development.
“I’m not surprised there has been so much interest and I’m sure the remaining properties will sell quickly now that people can view the showhome.”
The marketing suite is open daily from 11am to 5pm.
