A SPECIAL service to mark Holocaust Memorial Day will once again bring the community together to ensure the lessons of the past are remembered – and the theme for this year’s is ‘Don’t stand by’.

Bromsgrove District Council chairman Coun Caroline Spencer said: “This year we will remind ourselves of how the Holocaust took root through persecutions that were allowed to grow, often through fear or even simple indifference.

“It did not come only from people acting deliberately and the 2016 Holocaust Memorial Day message is simple: Don’t stand by.

“As long as we remember the atrocities of the past we can avoid the same mistakes ever being made again, and by teaching these powerful lessons to our younger generations we can help ensure such horrors are never repeated.”

Residents are invited to the new Council House in the former Parkside School building at 11.30am on Wednesday (January 27) for the special service. Visit www.hmd.org.uk for more on Holocaust Memorial Day.
