A SECRET club in Bromsgrove is looking for new members who love to bake and talk about cake, writes Imogen Buller.
A new branch of the Clandestine Cake Club (CCC) launched in Bromsgrove invites people who want to bake, meet new people and share cake to join.
The first meeting took place on February 18 at the Greyhound pub in Bromsgrove and was enjoyed by all who attended.
Leader of the North Worcestershire branch Sharon Smith said: “There is something so heart-warming about a group of people that have never met before chatting comfortably for hours over a mutual love of baking.
“I don’t think there was a quiet moment all night – perhaps helped along by the sugar high that everyone was on.”
The premise is simple – a date and theme are chosen, members are sent invitations and the location is revealed.
Those who bring a cake to the meeting may then sample the cakes baked by others who attend.
The non-profit club has 200 branches around the world and costs nothing to join – just the cost of cake ingredients and time spent baking it.
Sharon added: “It can be something as simple and classic as a wonderful Victoria Sponge cake, or something more elaborate and special for a celebration.
“There is something lovely about being able to mix together some simple ingredients to produce something that almost always puts a smile on people’s faces.”
Every venue is different in size and location so commitment to baking and bringing a cake is crucial.
Only members of the Clandestine Cake Club will be told the location of the next secret meeting, so anyone interested should go to www.clandestinecakeclub.co.uk
