BROMSGROVE District Council’s Planning Committee approved plans for Rubery Market to open from the hours of 9.30am until 9pm seven days a week when it met on Monday (December 7).
The case to open seven days a week was brought before the council by the new proprietor of the market building and business manger behind Robinson’s Opticians, Ian Robinson.
He was supported by Annette Taylor and Emma Forsythe who run the market’s Sign Post Cafe – a new enterprise with an ethos which provides local residents with friendly advice and guidance on all manner of issues.
Mr Robinson said he took over management of the market building on (October 14) this year and had already made considerable improvements to its poor condition.
He said the market would become an ‘incubator for small businesses’ and he aimed support the council’s mandate to improve the economic growth of the area.
There are currently nine businesses operating in the market who have historically operated from Tuesday to Saturday.
With business hours confirmed to include Sundays and Mondays, Mr Robinson said traders could now partake in events which take place on weekends.
Mr Robinson, who has a 15-year track record in improving businesses in the community, said he was delighted with the decision for traders to operate seven days a week.
