A RUBERY couple will be toasting their 50th wedding anniversary today (Friday).

Anne and John Davies were childhood sweethearts and have been together since they were 12 and 14.

Their dads were friends and worked together at The Austin motor factory.

Anne and John also worked there as soon as they were old enough – Anne in the sales office and John on the production line as a door hanger.

Their wedding – on September 11 1965 – took place at Lickey Church and they honeymooned in Jersey.

The pair, who have lived in Rubery for all of their married lives, went on to have six children and 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

When asked about the secret to a happy marriage, Anne said: “The children have played a big part because they kept us busy, looking after them and worrying about them.

“We didn’t spend too much time with just the two of us.

“Then when they grew up and left home, we got two little dogs who keep us company.”

She added learning to be tolerant of each other also helped.

And to mark their marvellous milestone, the couple will be going out for a special family meal today.

Daughter Joanne Davies said: “We love them to bits – they are everything to us.”
