THE PROPOSAL to bulldoze Bromsgrove’s Greyhound pub will be discussed at the district council planning committee meeting at The Parkside Suite at 6pm tonight (Monday).
The application to demolish the building will be put before members after Coun Luke Mallett, the leader of the town’s Labour Group, requested councillors have their say on the proposal, rather than it be directly delegated to officers.
The application needs Bromsgrove District Council to determine whether prior approval is required, and then it will be up to the authority to examine ‘the method of demolition’ and ‘any proposed restoration of the site’.
The time limit for deciding whether prior approval is needed is usually 28 days from the receipt of the application, but in the case of The Greyhound an extension to that date was agreed.
The controversial application by the developers led to an 11th hour campaign to save the pub and a string of objections to it being bulldozed.
Among those speaking out about the proposal were Coun Mallett and his fellow Labour councillor Michael Thompson, local residents and community groups, including the Redditch and Bromsgrove CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale).
The town’s CAMRA branch has also submitted an application for The Greyhound to be listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV).
