THE PRIMROSE has teamed up with 15 other hospices from across the West Midlands for a TV campaign which will air for the first time on Sunday (February 14).
The Love your Local Hospice drive, deliberately launched on Valentine’s Day, is aimed at raising awareness of the local services that hospices provide and try to dispel some of the myths and fear around the word ‘hospice’.
The Primrose also hopes to raise some much-needed funds to enable local people to continue to receive their services free of charge.
Helen Briscoe, the Primrose’s chief executive, said it was important to get the message across that the hospice was a local charity for local people.
“Many people do not realise what the hospice can offer to them and their families.
“When someone is told the news that they will not get better it can be a distressing and emotionally challenging time, not just for the patient but for their family and friends.
“As a hospice we provide many services for families as well as for the patient themselves.
“We find that people are often hesitant to ask for help from us as they fear the word ‘hospice’.”
She added she hoped the ‘Love your Local Hospice’ campaign would make it clear the Primrose provided a caring, supportive service individually tailored to the patient and their family.
“Many of the families who use our services say that they do not know how they would have coped without our support,” she said.
The TV advert is backed up by a Primrose postcard campaign suggesting people may like to make a small donation via their mobile phone. A minimum £2 donation has been suggested so it really is affordable for anyone.
