POLICE officers carried out an operation in Stoke Prior on Wednesday (May 7) in a bid to catch speeding drivers.

The action on Shaw Lane was taken in response to complaints from residents about motorists going too fast down there, endangering the lives of the public.

The Standard ran a story last week on the issue and John Ellis, one of the campaigners vying to get something done, this week reiterated his plea for drivers to slow down.

“We have had another car accident along Shaw Lane, caused by speeding traffic, which caused chaos along the roads in the area during the busy rush hour.

“Local drivers were held up and were late arriving to work and the school bus was delayed, causing untold distress.

“May I beg the Highways department and the police to do something more positive to ensure that Shaw Lane becomes safer for both motorists and pedestrians before the next accident becomes fatal,” he added.

Police said, during the 90-minute operation on Wednesday, 316 drivers were picked up by the cameras and five drivers were caught being over the 30mph limit – their speeds ranged from 35 to 51mph and action was taken by officers.
