THERE will be plenty for all the family to do over the school summer holidays at Avoncroft Museum.

A series of days themed on different ‘Heroes and Villains’ will be held from Tuesday to Thursday each week throughout the six weeks.

Every one will feature 45-minute workshops between 11am and 3.15pm, along with a craft activity and a themed trail around the museum’s grounds.

From July 29 to 31, activities will be focused on King Arthur – those who go along will be able to take part in the Camelot Games and test their skills and wits in the workshops.

On August 5, 6 and 7, it will be the turn of Robin Hood to take centre stage. Visitors will be able to hear Robin Hood tales, join his band of merry men and get to practise the skills they need to be an outlaw in the forest.

Cavaliers and Roundheads will do battle between August 12 and 14. Those going along will find out more about the English Civil War and have to decide which side they are going to be on. Then they will be able to try on armour in the threshing barn, learn about crime and punishment in the chainshop, craft gifts and coins and try their hand at writing with a quill in the town house.

There will be plenty of standing and delivering at the venue from August 19 and 21 when visitors will be trained to be ruthless highwaymen and women. Those who go along can choose their weapons and steal some treasures, making sure they avoid the law in the process.

And on August 26, 27, 28, there will be an elementary workshops at Avoncroft when Sherlock Holmes comes into the spotlight.

Visitors can learn about the great detective and how he solved his cases, listen to stories about him, take part in a cunning craft activities and even turn detective themselves as they hunt down clues on the museum’s trail.
