A BROMSGROVE pensioner says he is appalled nothing has been done about a section of dug up pavement in the town centre which caused him to fall.
Raymond Young, of Melbourne Road, idemoor, tripped over the uneven surface on Mill Lane outside Iceland last month and after speaking to the county council about the issue he expected it to have been fixed. When he returned he was shocked to see the hazard was still there.
The 77-year-old said he fell head first on to the pavement and broke his glasses and phone which were in his pocket.
And he said, if it had not been for the heavily padded ‘bomber’ jacket he was wearing, it could have been a lot worse.
“It really shook me up,” he said.
“I have been battling leukaemia over the last seven months and have been having chemotherapy so this was really the last thing I needed.
“I am just disgusted by their total disregard for the danger the pavement poses to people.
“It is just a matter of time before someone else falls and hurts themselves.”
After much debate over who had responsibility for maintaining and repairing the pavements in the area, the council stated it was up to them to fix the issue.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of reported safety concerns on this footway following works conducted by a utility contractor.
“Worcestershire County Council will ensure that proper safety inspections take place and any outstanding issues with the footway are corrected.”
