RESIDENTS across the district are being urged to ‘Paws For Tea’ at Bromsgrove’s Blue Cross rehoming centre or embark on a nice stroll from there next Saturday (May 16).

The event, between 10am and 3pm, will enable those who go along to enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake in return for a donation towards the care of homeless cats and dogs which reside there, such as Annie, the four-year-old Staffie (pictured).

And the annual sponsored dog walk offers participants two options – a shorter mile-long walk (suitable for younger children and those with disabilities) or a longer walk stretching to 4.5miles for those wanting more of a challenge.

Sponsorship forms can be collected from the centre or walkers can pay a £5 fee on the day.

All dogs taking part will receive a certificate, rosette and goodie bag.

Neil Edwards, Bromsgrove’s Blue Cross Centre manager, said: “A slice of cake and a cup of tea has never been more rewarding.

“Blue Cross helps over 40,000 sick, injured and homeless pets every year, and its events like Paws for Tea that make it possible.

“Every penny raised really does help.”

This year’s series of car boot sales also kicks off next Saturday (May 16) from 9am until midday.

These will continue every fortnight through the summer – sellers pay £5 per car or £10 per van/trailer.

Local pet-lovers are also being invited to host their own tea parties for needy pets at Blue Cross.

“Whether people come along to our tea party, or host one of their own, we hope lots of people will get involved with this year’s event.” Neil added.
