Owner re-appeals for help in finding Nero after six sightings

THE OWNER of a dog who has been missing from his Northfield home since New Year’s Eve has re-appealed for help in finding him after more than six sightings were reported in the Walkers Heath area.

Nero fled the garden of his home in Middlemore Road after he was spooked by fireworks set off to bring in the new year.

Nero was rescued from Romania where he was living in a makeshift shelter with 60 other dogs.

Mary Connel, who brought him to the UK, first contacted The Standard last month for help in finding the three-year-old black and tan shepherd mix who suffers with the potentially fatal disease heartworm.

That means if he does not get the treatment he needs his condition could deteriorate.

Because Nero is so nervous, it is likely he will run off if approached by people he does not know so Mary has urged anyone who sees him to call her.

The family has also enlisted a number of trained dog trappers who are at the ready for when the calls come in.

Mary said it had not surprised her Nero was still out there as he used to be a Romanian street dog so should be well equipped to survive.

But she added: “Because of his condition, time is of the essence and he will need to get treatment soon.”

Anyone with any information is urged to call Mary on 07785 774281 and leave a message if she does not answer.
