PUPILS from Ombersley Endowed First School and Nursery have been remembering fallen heroes as part of the commemorations of the start of the First World War.

The youngsters spent three weeks finding out about the soldiers who came from Ombersley and lost their lives in The Great War.

The children also planned and presented a Remembrance service for the rest of the school, parents, governors and visitors.

Part of it included the unveiling of the original Ombersley School memorial plaque to the soldiers who attended Ombersley First School.

That has now been restored and is hanging in the school hall.

Headteacher Caroline Moore said: “The children worked really hard to create a fitting tribute to those who have fallen in the service of our country.

“It is so important to continue to remember the sacrifices that have been made, and in this centenary year, we were proud to be able to learn more about our Ombersley soldiers and dedicate our service to their memory.”

The children concluded the ceremony by laying poppy wreaths in front of the memorial in honour of all those who have lost their lives in conflict.
