A BRAND new Bromsgrove branch of the Women’s Institute has been launched in the town.
The Bromsgrove Belles, which launched itself as a more ‘modern’ group for younger members, meets the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm at St John’s Church Hall, Bromsgrove, Bromsgrove Belles President Carla Priddon, 31, said: “There is a perception that the WI is old-fashioned and all about knitting and making jam.
“While we still embrace these traditions which have stood the WI in good stead for 100 years, we recognise that women nowadays want to learn different skills and the more members we have, the diverse range of activities we can host.”
The group has also forged a link with neighbouring Droitwich-based Spa-rkles WI – a similar Women’s Institute group – and they are currently exploring activities and events which they want to embark on together.
Already they have formed a book club and are set to go out for a Thai meal, with Spa-rkles.
They have only been formed for two months but already boast 18 members with interest increasing each week.
And they are looking to boost their numbers further.
