New VE Day musical created in Bromsgrove to raise funds for the Royal British Legion

A BROMSGROVE writer, a town theatre group and the Royal British Legion branch have all joined forces for a new musical being staged at Artrix next weekend.

Madcap Theatre will be bringing ‘Postcards from the Seaside’ to the venue’s studio next Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31).

The show, penned by Laurie Hornsby, honours the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

And members of the Bromsgrove RBL will be in attendance, taking a collection so it can continue the good work it does, helping former servicemen and women when they need it.

MadCap Theatre Productions, run from Stoke Prior, has built up a national reputation for producing entertaining and energetic theatre and Postcards from the Seaside will be no exception.

It provides a fascinating insight into life on the home front in the days leading up to the Dunkirk evacuation.

Wireless star Lester Duvall is the new act in town, and while he would rather be at a big London Theatre, Thanet seems as a good as place as any to hide in. But, when his tangled web of deception begins to unravel and he finds something, and someone, worth sticking around for, the normally indecisive and immature Lester faces decisions that could affect everything he holds dear.

Emma Leigh, MadCap’s Artistic Director, said: “We are so honoured that the Bromsgrove branch of the Royal British Legion is attending our show.

“While it is a musical, involving lots of catchy numbers and energetic dance routines, it is also an interesting and moving story which deserves to be told, being the 70th anniversary year of VE day, and the 75th anniversary year of Dunkirk itself.”

Tickets, at £12 (£10 for students) are available from www.artrix.co.uk and by calling 01527 577330.

Performances are 8pm on Saturday and 7.30pm on the Sunday.
