New scanner for Alexandra Hospital - The Bromsgrove Standard

New scanner for Alexandra Hospital

Bromsgrove Editorial 23rd May, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

AN additional CT scanner is due to be installed at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch following an increase in demand for its imaging services.

CT scans are used to create images of the inside of the body and are more detailed than standard X-rays. A scan takes five to ten minutes and can produce images of internal organs, blood vessels, bones and tumours.

With scanning on the new machine due to begin in June, the state-of-the-art Toshiba Aquilion Prime scanner will run alongside the existing CT scanner at the hospital, allowing radiology staff to work more efficiently while increasing the number of patients they can see and meeting their diagnostic targets.

Both CT scanners will offer patients the highest standard of scanning with the lowest dose of radiation possible.

Over the last 12 months over 57,500 CT scans have been performed across the county by staff at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, an increase from 54,900 the previous year
