A NEW cafe in Rubery will be officially opened tomorrow (Saturday) by former Birmingham Poet Laureate and local resident Spoz.

Polly Put the Kettle On opened in New Road four weeks ago and, owner Susan O’Leary, said it had been really well-received by residents.

The day-long event, which starts at 10am, will feature live rock ‘n’ roll music, classic Austin cars, a seven-seater limousine, balloons and more.

Among the food on offer will be gateaus, cheesecakes, other home-made cakes and savoury snacks. Susan has been a baker all her life after being given a grant by the Prince’s Trust to set up her first business when she was 18.

And, when Prince Charles came to Birmingham as part of a royal visit, Susan was given the chance to make his 40th birthday cake.

“That was amazing, I got to meet him, as well as make the cake and I have been to London a lot as a representative of the Prince’s Trust.”
