Musical extravaganza en route to Barnt Green

A GROUP of amazing musicians who divert from their usual commitments in early November and head to a mountainside Lake District retreat to rehearse their Christmas concerts will be bringing their festive extravaganza to Barnt Green.

St Agnes Fountain, which takes its name from the carol Good King Wenceslas, will be taking to the stage at St Andrew’s Church at 7.30pm on December 7.

Performing ‘rhythmed-up’ carols and Christmas music, their programme is decorated with specially chosen readings, sprinkled with lots of laughter and soaked in the great spirit of the season.

Fiddle player Chris Leslie, of Fairport Convention, said: “This is our 15th year together and we’re looking forward to it as much as ever.

“It’s a very special time for us and it’s wonderful that so many people see their St Agnes Fountain gig as the official start of Christmas.”

This year’s selection of tunes includes tracks from the band’s newly released ‘Best Of – Volume 2’ album and each member has chosen a reading with an evocative, seasonal connection.

The band members are founders David Hughes (guitarist, poet, songwriter and broadcaster) and Chris Leslie with award-winning duo Chris While and Julie Matthews (Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Duo).

The night will boast a flurry of amazing vocals and an assortment of instruments.

Tickets, at £18, are available by calling 0121 445 2343 or 07753 487632.
