MP praises work of Bromsgrove's leading refugee charity

THE WORK of Bromsgrove Welcomes Refugees (BWR) group has been praised by town MP Sajid Javid.

The words from Mr Javid follow a change in Government policy and an agreement to accept 3,000 lone refugee minors living in camps across Europe.

Mr Javid, one of 294 MPs to vote against the Dubs Amendment, thanked the BWR group at a meeting which discussed the local and national response to Syrian refugees.

The Government was defeated last Wednesday (May 4) by the Labour Peer Lord Dubs who was himself one of 10,000 refugee children to flee the Nazis in the 1930s.

The Dubs Amendment was also backed by some 30 Tory MPs.

Mr Javid said: “At home in Bromsgrove it’s truly heart-warming to see the generous support that Bromsgrove Welcomes Refugees are undertaking to help those forced to flee their homes amidst devastation.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the group and to encourage anyone able to help in the smallest of ways to get involved.”

Yvonne Rendell, Chair of Bromsgrove Welcomes Refugees added: “We were pleased to receive such positive support from Sajid as our local MP.

“We want to offer friendship and care to these people who have lost so much so that they can integrate into our community as home.”
