A DRIVER and a pedestrian had a lucky escape when a car drove into the shop at the Morrisons petrol station in Bromsgrove.

The incident happened on the forecourt of the garage on Buntsford Park Road.

An ambulance and rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene after the incident which happened about 12.55pm this afternoon.

The woman in her 70s who was in the Ford Mondeo suffered only minor facial injuries after the airbag went off in the car.

She was examined by paramedics at the scene and, along with a pedestrian also involved in the incident was discharged at the scene.

A crew from Bromsgrove Fire Station isolated the electrics in the building and, after the car was pulled out, it was made safe.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said: “It was lucky the car had gone into the shop and not the petrol pumps.

“Because the car entered close to the door, it was also fortunate no one was seriously injured.

“It was a very lucky escape by everyone involved.”

The petrol station is currently closed, but a spokesperson for Morrisons said staff were working hard to get it reopened.

“We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers and we will get it reopened as soon as we can,” she added.
