Longbridge residents urged to attend partnership event

RESIDENTS in South West Birmingham are being urged to go to a partnership event on Friday (February 27).

Billed as the Longbridge Convention, the get-together is being held from 3.30pm to 7pm at the Hollymoor Centre, Manor Park Grove, and will see professionals link up with volunteers to discuss issues and plan projects to improve the local community.

It is being hosted by Longbridge Neighbourhood Watch and will feature representatives from numerous organisations including West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, Birmingham City Council, Frankley Parish Council and Carnival Committee and the Frankley Street Champions.

Projects organised previously include one at Balaams Wood to tidy up the greenery and plant more than 1,000 trees and one at Princess Di Way. That saw a family sort out an area which had become unusable due to a burst pipe and neglect. As part of that scheme, 20 tonnes of soil were removed, along with fly-tipped items and a new pathway was created so people can now use it.

Chairman of the Longbridge Neighbourhood Watch Bruce Pitt is co-ordinating the meeting.

He said: “We want to pull together, review what we have already done , see what we can do and look at where we can take the area in the future.”

Anyone wanting more information or to let the organisers know they will be attending should call Bruce on 07779 497263.
