A LONGBRIDGE councillor has been delivering Christmas lunch hampers to the needy and vulnerable in his ward.

Coun Andy Cartwright has been distributing the seasonal packages which contain items donated by Sainsbury’s in Longbridge and Tony Geraghty the butcher.

Coun Cartwright told The Standard: “Longbridge is being redeveloped and whilst this is a great vision and a need I am pleased with how successful the businesses network and community network meetings I have set up are bringing great opportunities to Longbridge ward residents.

“These have included customer care training and work experience placements, as well as the hampers.”

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s Longbridge said: “It’s great to support residents in Longbridge Ward building partnerships offering many opportunities helping the redevelopment of the area.

“We are proud to be part of the community.”

Mr Geraghty added he was thrilled to be able to give back to the local community.

“I approached Coun Cartwright with an idea and I’m glad that he was able to pull local and national businesses together to support our community.”
