Loco tour to give Bromsgrove train fans a rare rail treat

A RAIL TOUR is set to visit Barnt Green and Bromsgrove when it travels around the Midlands on Sunday (April 12).

The excursion begins at Crewe before visiting locations including Dudley, Walsall and Bromsgrove, with an option for enthusiasts to alight at Barnt Green and travel to Redditch or Alvechurch on a passenger service. The train then heads to the ‘up goods loop’ at Bromsgrove for a brief visit.

Peter Watts of Pathfinder Tours said: “This tour offers an intriguing ramble around unusual lines in the Midlands.

“We had planned to terminate in the new station at Bromsgrove, unfortunately were not able to do that on this occasion.”

The Dimple, Darley and Dale tour is set to be hauled by three diesel locomotives, with a class 37 leading, and two class 20 locomotives at the rear.

This type of formation, known as ‘top-and-tail’, will avoid the need for the locomotives to ‘run-round’ when it is in the goods loop at Bromsgrove.

The train is due to stop at Barnt Green at 11.32am before arriving at Bromsgrove’s up goods loop at 11.41am. Here the class 37 is detached.

The train departs Bromsgrove at 12.05pm and calls at Barnt Green at 12.15pm before continuing to Matlock.

The class 37 departs Bromsgrove at 12.14pm and returns to Crewe.

Anyone going to see the train is reminded to act responsibly and not trespass on the line.
