Lickey youngsters tickled pink by their success

YOUNGSTERS from Lickey End Playgroup helped raise more than £645 towards the installation of a defibrillator for the church where the group is based.

The children participated in a Pink Week because the box which houses the automated external defibrillator is pink.

It was kindly donated Redditch couple Robert and Maggie Underwood in memory of their children Charlotte and Craig.

Craig was 17 when he suffered a cardiac arrest and Charlotte passed away from Sudded Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

The children wore pink, iced biscuits with pink icing and welcomed a special guest – popular children’s TV character Doc McStuffins.

One of the children collected more than £57 by buying ‘Young Heart Matters’ wristbands and selling them for a higher price.

Doc McStuffins checked chests with her stethoscope, danced to Frozen music and had her picture taken with the children.

A total of £1,000 is needed to buy the defibrillator for the pink box.

Anyone wanting to donate should visit http://www.redditchheartsafe.com/donate/ and select the ‘Lickey End Defibrillator Appeal’ option.
