Last chance today to catch the Belbroughton Scarecrow Festival

Bromsgrove Editorial 25th Sep, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THOUSANDS of people are expected in Belbroughton today (Sunday) for the last day of the annual scarecrow festival.

This year’s event is themed around ABC – Authors, Books, Characters – and residents, the village school and other organisations have come up with some fantastic creations.

Among them are books by Roald Dahl, after the date which would have been the writer’s 100th birthday – September 13, 2016, was celebrated throughout the UK a fortnight ago.

Scarecrows have been made in tribute to the popular author and his many books, including James and the Giant Peach, the BFG, Willy Wonka and the Chodolate Factory and George’s Marvellous Medicine.

The Very Hungry Catterpillar, The Snowman, Alice in Wonderland, The Gruffalo, Room on a Broom, Stick Man, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Rapunzel, the Cat in the Hat and the Tiger Who Came to Tea were also subjects chiaen by the villagers who have again come up with some very clever creations.

The festival begins at 10.30am today and runs until 5pm.

Other attractions include a knight school on the school field, a host of live entertainment across three stages, art and crafts displays and stalls, fairground rides, church tower tours and classic cars.

Rich Goodwin will be doing aerial displays around 3pm days and there will be food and drink available.

There is also the ‘Big Belbroughton Bake Off’ which has challenged residents to make cakes. All cakes were welcome and there was four judging categories – lemon drizzle, chocolate, Victoria sponge and ‘show stopper’.
