Hopes to smash squash match record in Barnt Green

TWO members of Barnt Green Sports Club will be sweating it out today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), attempting to smash the World Record for the longest ever squash match which currently 36 hours and 3 minutes.

All in the aid of charity, Len Granger and Jamie Barnett are aiming to spend an amazing 37 hours on the court at the sports club.

They were due to start at 7am this morning and will finish at 8pm Saturday night.

Len, manager at Aztec UK LTD, and property developer Jamie are taking the challenge very seriously and are undergoing strict training and diet programmes with the University of Worcester.

“What started out as just a funny, drunken idea has turned into a momentous, almost impossible challenge, which has been more than sobering.” Jamie said.

“Training and preparing for the event has been a massive turning point.”

The pair are also tirelessly campaigning for help and support – both on and off the court.

As well as donations for Hospice UK and St Paul’s Hostel, they also need courtside supporters and invite everyone to make as much of a racket as they can to spur them on throughout the 37 hour challenge.

Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid went down to Barnt Green Sports Club on Friday (August 28) to meet the pair after hearing about the challenge.

He said: “I was very impressed by Jamie and Len’s preparation for their World Record attempt.

“They both deserve great commendation for their sporting commitment and fundraising for two such important causes.

“I will be following their progress closely over the weekend.”
