High profile name set for former Market Hall site

Bromsgrove Editorial 6th Jun, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THE DEVELOPMENT earmarked for the former Market Hall site will be anchored by a high profile name that the people of Bromsgrove will be very happy with.

That is the view of Jon Hinton whose Bromsgrove-based company Hinton Properties has been chosen by the district council as the preferred developer of the site.

Although Mr Hinton said he could not yet mention any names, he said he wanted the deal to progress as quickly as possible.

“I have lived in Bromsgrove for more than 30 years and know how important this location is.

“We chose it because we felt it was the best one in town and we feel residents will be very happy with our plans.”

As well as the former market hall site, it also includes the car park and George House.

There were plans for a multi-million pound complex, incorporating a five-screen cinema, a food store and restaurants, on the site but developers Opus Land pulled out in September.

Coun Rita Dent, whose Bromsgrove District Council portfolio covers economic development, said: “After the disappointment of a developer pulling out previously this is brilliant news and another move towards creating a better Bromsgrove.”

Mr Hinton added: “The retailers we have spoken to are committed to the scheme and we hope to be able to reveal who it is very soon.”
