STAFF and regulars at the Old Hare and Hounds in Rednal are celebrating after it was named Best South Birmingham Venue at a prestigious pub awards ceremony at the Second City’s ICC.
The accolade – at the Birmingham Best Bar None Awards – followed a vigorous two-hour assessment which checks venues are community pubs and safe premises.
The awards go to venues which show they look after their guests, such as ensuring taxi numbers are available or that staff will call cabs for customers if needs be.
Manager Caroline Wrenn said: “I was really pleased to win – I only took over the pub a year ago and also won the same award at the last place I was at.”
In the last year, the Hare and Hounds has also raised £1,600 for the Primrose Hospice.
Caroline added that the pub had also become a lot busier over the last 12 months, achieved record real ale sales and a number of themed nights had been introduced, including live bands, charity events, two quizzes and DJ performances.
