A COMMUNITY group led by Charford resident Sue Douglas has been awarded a district council grant to develop gardens and public areas around Rock Hill.

The group consists of trained gardeners who want to transform areas to create a better landscape and environment to live in.

Sue got in touch with Coun Michael Thompson when he contacted local residents asking for their ideas.

The project, which involves developing public gardens and vegetable plots, also aims to bring the community together to share skills and develop friendships.

Coun Thompson said: “This is a first class example of residents working together under the support of the local council and is exactly why I came into local politics.

“Sue is a selfless and exceptional person and it was a pleasure to recommend this project to the council for this grant.”

Coun Chris Bloore, who has also supported the project with funds from his county council divisional fund, added: “This is a fantastic community project and I am very pleased to support it with money from my divisional fund.

“I’m looking forward to helping Sue and the group in the coming months.”
