THE CHAIRMAN of a funeral directors has retired from the business after almost 50 years in charge.

Miles Morton, who took over with his brother Grant, has now passed the firm onto Derek and Sarah Case, continuing the tradition of it being a family-run business.

Miles said: “Derek and Sarah were the natural choice to take over – they have such a passion for all we do and I knew they would continue to care for families in the same way my family always have.”

Derek has worked with Miles for more than 30 years – the last ten as the managing director.

Sarah joined the business in 2005 and after gaining her Diploma in Funeral Directing in 2011, became assistant MD to her father.

Derek said it was fantastic to take over from Miles, adding they were more like brothers than colleagues.

“Mortons has been a huge part of my life for such a long time.”

Derek and Sarah have organised many of the firm’s community events, including the Christmas tree of lights.
