FUNDING for the replacement market stalls down Bromsgrove’s High Street was given the green light on Wednesday (July 16).

Currently, the town has around 16 market stalls running on a Friday and Saturday and 11 on a Tuesday, all with a different mix of traders on different days – generating an annual revenue of £60,000.

During the meeting, members of the council agreed to provided £60,000, £4,200 from reserves and £56,000 from balances, to go towards reconstructing the market to make 33 individual stalls.

The new dedicated area, where the High street is at its widest at the north end outside Argos, will allow a further 14 stalls.

The money will be used to equip the new stalls, canopies and extra equipment – this will be expected to last for the next ten years.

It is anticipated further income will be generated from the new pitches, providing a replacement reserve for the future.
