Fund-raising campaign launched for £1.9million Bromsgrove Blue Cross revamp

AN APPEAL has been made to all Bromsgrove animal lovers to back a fund-raising campaign to help pay for a £1.9million revamp of the town’s Blue Cross Centre.

It comes after a planning application to rebuild much of the Catshill centre was given the green light by Bromsgrove District Council.

The major project is set to benefit thousands of local pets with a newly-refurbished dog kennels, a brand new cattery with dedicated puppy and kitten units as well as new pet care clinic for pets owned by people on low incomes and a redeveloped reception area.

The centre will continue to rehome cats and dogs and provide vet treatment for pets in a temporary clinic until the new site is complete – it is hoped the building work will begin this autumn and will be finished by the end of next summer.

With a new centre the charity’s staff will be able to rehome more pets and provide a more comfortable environment for them during their stay.

Once the project is complete, it has been estimated the centre will be able to help double the number of animals, going from 600 to 1,200 a year.

The revamped kennels and cattery will be more spacious and there will be maternity units for puppies and kittens, special housing for new arrivals and a dedicated behaviour assessment area.

Neil Edwards, Bromsgrove’s centre manager, said: “We are delighted to hear planning permission has been granted.

“Homeless pets staying at the centre deserve better accommodation while they are waiting for a new home.

“The new facilities will be purpose-built and modern, meaning we’ll be able to provide the highest level of care.

“Now our plans have been given the green light, we will be raising funds for the renovations.

“If anyone in the local community would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from them.”
