CAR PARKING will be free in the evenings at Bromsgrove’s pay and display town centre car parks from next month.
A 12-month trial period until next February was agreed by Bromsgrove District Council’s cabinet on Wednesday (January 7).
Currently, motorists have to pay fees up until 10pm, but from next month charges will cease after 7pm at the Recreation Road North, Stourbridge Road, Parkside, School Drive, Windsor Street, New Road and Hanover Street car parks.
From January to December 2014, the pay and display car parks in Bromsgrove generated 39,567.54 for the district council (excluding VAT).
It is estimated the free parking will cost the authority between £38,000 and £60,000 and £60,000 has been allocated from balances to pay for the loss of income.
The council also announced the prices at the town centre car parks would be staying the same for 2015/16 as they had been for 2014/15.
