BROMSGROVE’S new Registry Office at the Parkside hub held its first wedding on Saturday (January 23).
Martin Simkins and Lynsey Devine, who met 15 months ago, became Mr and Mrs Simkins-Devine in front of 40 guests, which included their three children Connor, four, and twins Mia and Evie, two.
In the hurry to get ready Lynsey, who wore a vintage white dress on the day, forgot her bouquet.
Martin said: “At least she gets to keep it and it could have been worse – we could have forgot the rings.”
On the venue he said: “When we had the initial interview, it was at the old place and we were hoping the new building would be ready in time.
“The room was perfect for our 40 guests, the staff were welcoming and the registrar and superintendent were absolutely brilliant – we were petrified and really nervous about saying our vows in front of all those people, but they put us at ease.
“The photographer Stuart was also fantastic, he was really patient with the kids and took some really nice shots.”
After the ceremony, the couple went for photographs at Sanders Park and everyone went for a meal at The Guild and while the adults chatted, the 11 children went in the soft play.
Rather than a conventional honeymoon, the happy couple are now planning to take the children for a week or weekend away.
“We wanted the children to be involved in everything as much as possible.
“It was a wonderful day and it is made even more special by the fact we will always be the first couple to get married at Bromsgrove’s new registry office,” said Martin.
