A MILITARY training college for 16- to 19-year-olds in Frankley has celebrated its first anniversary.

Since opening in 2015, the free Birmingham Military Preparation College has already helped nearly 70 young people from the area develop their physical fitness, functional skills and self-confidence through an active learning approach to learning.

James Moore, lead instructor at the college, said: “Traditional education isn’t for everyone and the college offers young people a unique alternative.

“Our lessons operate very differently from what students would have experienced in school.

“We encourage all our learners to contribute as much as possible and they receive a very high standard of education, while having fun at the same time.”

The Birmingham college, one of 19 of its kind across the UK, combines military-style physical training with vocational instruction and personal development to help students get fit and ready for employment.
