THE NEW-LOOK Bromsgrove Festival will aim to go out with a bang this weekend when the curtain comes down on five weeks worth of events, from concerts and dances to live theatre and art exhibitions.
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 5.45pm there will be a daring high-wire performance rolling into Bromsgrove town centre.
The feat will see trapeze artists and musicians perform suspended above the town’s historic rooftops in a towering procession that will wind its way through the south of the town to a grand finale in the car park on Hanover Street.
Those who go along are urged to take along their own percussion instruments to give the legendary French troupe Mobile Homme – Transe Express some encouragement.
Also tomorrow (Saturday), Artrix’s very own youth production company Out of the Box will present Rebels With a Cause at the arts centre at 7pm. The piece has been devised around themes of protest, conflict and strongly-held beliefs, gaining inspiration from shows such as Les Miserables, Newsies and West Side Story.

Ian Parker will be in the Artrix studio from 8pm tomorrow (Saturday). The blues-rock artist is influenced by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Fleetwood Mac. The shows both start at 7.30pm at St John’s Church.
And The Orchestra of St John, Bromsgrove, will perform A Symphony of Winds featuring Mozart’s Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments – ‘The Gran Partuta’, along with Richard Strauss’ Happy Workshop tomorrow. The orchestra’s gala concert on Sunday will feature Brahms’ Violin Concerto with violinist David Le Page, Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony and Wagner’s Overture to Der Meistersinger von Nurnberg. Tickets are £10 for each event, with accompanying children going free.That includes free refreshments and a free programme, although donations towards costs would be welcomed.

There will also be a Sunday Morning Service set to Schubert;s Mass No 2 in G Major D.167 at St John’s Church at 10.45am on Sunday morning (July 20).
Later on Sunday, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm, Shirley Band will perform traditional brass band music at the Jubilee Bandstand in Sanders Park. The event is free. And at 3pm soprano Elizabeth Atherton, Robert Plane on clarinet and pianist Michael Pollock perform a celebration of English song at Tardebigge Church.
Among the pieces will be Purcell’s The Blessed Virgin’s Expostulation, Finzi’s Five Bagatelles and Warlock’s Sleep, Pretty Ring Time and Cradle Song, along with music by Joseph Holbrooke and Ian Venables.There is a pre-concert talk by Ian Venables and Graham Lloyd at 2pm. Tickets are £15 (£4 for full-time students and registered unemployed) and free to accompanied children.
