A FAMILY of four had a lucky escape after a rock was thrown at their car from a motorway bridge as they had just gone past Junction 7 of the M5.
It happened just before 12midnight on Monday (July 28) as Caroline and Craig Bradley and their two children, aged one and three, were travelling northbound to their Northfield home after a camping holiday in Somerset.
Miraculously, the rock bounced off the windscreen of the Vauxhall Zafira and no one was hurt.
Caroline, who was driving at the time, told The Standard: “We had just gone past Junction 7 and under the bridge when we heard an almighty bang.
“It was then we realised that the rock had hit the windscreen.
“Craig looked around and saw someone on the bridge but he could not make out much more than that.”
She said, from the white residue left behind on the car, it is thought it could have been a breeze block.
“It was a miracle it didn’t break through the windscreen – maybe it was because of the roadworks and the fact we weren’t going that fast at the time.
“We were so lucky and still can’t believe it has happened – it’s just a crazy thing for someone to do,” she added.
West Mercia Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have urged anyone who saw anything – either on the carriageway or the bridge – to get in touch with officers.
