CREATIVE residents at Bromsgrove’s Breme Care Home have been making sure they get their ‘five a day’ thanks to healthy eating soup-making sessions.
Residents enjoyed making mouth-watering vegetable soup and baking beautiful Irish soda bread with activities leader Helen Barron this week.
Helen, who is originally from Kilkenny in Ireland, used her late mother Catherine O’Neill’s special recipe which has proved a huge hit.
She said: “Once we have added all the vegetables and stock, before it starts to simmer we add a sneaky glass of Guinness which makes it a really beautiful, rich soup.”
“The residents have absolutely loved making it from the beginning to the end.
“When they sat down in the evening they felt very proud they had made the meal – it’s a real sense of achievement and you can really taste it’s homemade.”
