Egg-citing events at Avoncroft as crowds flock there for Easter

THERE was plenty of activities for visitors to do at Avoncroft Museum over the Easter weekend.

The venue pulled in more than 2,000 people over the whole weekend, with more than 500 on Monday when those who went along got to bask in some beautiful spring sunshine.

There was Easter praise in the Victorian Mission Church, rides on the miniature railway, historical re-enactors bringing some of the buildings to life and the chance to have a go at archery.

The 200-year-old windmill was also open for visitors to explore, although there was not quite enough wind for sailing it.

For youngsters, there were a bouncy castle and fairground attractions, along with traditional games, including egg rolling, egg and spoon races and an Easter trail around the grounds.

Chris Everall, the museum’s head of business and marketing, said: “We had some really good feedback about the activities we had on.

“Avoncroft is quite quirky and people like to come here for a traditional family day out once in a while and it’s great for that.”

Visitor numbers at Avoncroft were 34 per cent up in 2014, compared to 2013 and it is hoped they will rise even more this year.
