Droitwich firm gives Alex rally a platform

A DROITWICH firm has rallied to the cause by supplying platforms to hang flags from during the Save the Alex march.

The mass rally, which will last one hour, will take place tomorrow (Saturday) and starts at 11am outside Redditch Town Hall.

Spa business Platform Hire Ltd will be there to hoist up flags and banners, while Studley-based AG Cranes will also be providing them.

In addition both McDonalds and Burger King in Redditch are giving out thousands of money off vouchers for everyone carrying a flag and there will be prizes for the best banners.

“If you care, you need to be there.” said Neal Stote from the Save the Alex Campaign.

“It’s exactly 30 years ago that the Alex opened to care for the people of Redditch new town and 30 years on to have those services dismantled in the way that is being proposed is simply unacceptable.” he added.

“The whole town has been talking about the situation at the Alex.

“Frankly I’m shocked and amazed that there is still a question mark over it especially with what’s going on at Worcestershire Royal Hospital where they have shown they cannot cope with a high volume of patients.”

“The fate of this hospital will affect everyone in Redditch and the surrounding area, both young and old.” he said.

“I asked the students how many had been born there? How many have used the A&E department?

“Both consultant-led maternity services and overnight paediatrics would move to Worcester.

“In 10 to 12 years those students will be maybe having families of their own and having to go to Worcester instead of their local hospital here in Redditch.”
