THESE pictures show the dramatic moment when a quick-thinking train driver stopped in time after a car crashed through a fence and down an embankment, coming to rest next to the track.

The driver, a woman, who was the only one in the car, had a very lucky escape after the incident which took place on Lea Green Lane, near to Wythall Railway Station just before 10pm last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic support officer to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “It is incredibly fortunate that the woman was uninjured and the oncoming train managed to stop short of the incident.

“The car stopped about a foot short of the track after leaving the road, breaking through a fence and travelling down an embankment.”

The driver did not need medical attention and was discharged at the scene.

A 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton has been charged with drink-driving and is due to appear at Redditch Magistrates Court on October 21.
