GREEN-fingered volunteers are being urged to get out their trowels on Sunday (June 12) for the latest planting session being carried out by Rubery in Bloom.
Participants will be meeting near the Callowbridge entrance to New Road at 10am and will get to work on transforming a plot of wasteland that has recently been reclaimed for the community, thanks to support from Bromsgrove District Council and traders in the village.
The area, in between Callowbridge and New Road, has been cleared by the Rubery in Bloom team and the new shrubs are being paid for by the Rubery Village Business Association.
Rubery in Bloom, which has only been up and running five years, was awarded Level 5 from the Royal Horticultural Society last year and, as well as displays in the park and along New Road has 140 flower boxes around the village.
Lorna Ockenden, the vice chair of the project, said it showed what could be achieved when the community pulled together.
“We have worked hard to make Rubery cleaner, greener and more neighbourly,” she added.
The team is also on the lookout for more volunteers to ensure the displays are regularly watered so they can reach their full potential.
