COFTON Hackett mum Katy Dawson’s breast cancer battle has been dealt another blow after the German doctors treating her told her she would need to raise £100,000 more than she expected.

The mum-of-two has been battling the rare form of breast cancer and raised more than £41,000 for her specialist care but she now needs £150,000 to continue her treatment.

Her husband Paul said it was heartbreaking news for them but they were thankful of the support they have received so far.

“I am trying hard to support Katy emotionally and keep things as normal as possible for our babies as best I can.

“I lost my lovely mum to cancer a few years ago, I can’t bear the thought of losing my wife too and our little ones losing their mum.

“Katy is a fantastic mum and she adores our children.”

Katy has already used all the funds raised on her treatment and will need to return to Germany every two to three months at a cost of between £10,000 and £20,000 a time.

As her cancer is so aggressive she fears the traditional chemo available in the UK will not be sufficient to save her and there is little knowledge of how to treat triple negative form of cancers in this country.

“Her next trip needs to be in November.

“You might have noticed we have changed her gofundme target.

“Any further support either in donations, getting the word out to new supporters, or fund-raising activities will make all the difference.

“If there is anything you, or people you know, might be able to do to help us we would be so grateful. Thank you so much.”

Katy’s fund-raisers will be holding a family fun day tomorrow (Saturday) at Licky Hills Primary School from 1pm as well a charity ball on October 15 at the Bromsgrove Hotel with tickets costing £40 per person.
