A CAT rescue centre is urging pet owners to get their feline friends neutered as soon as possible now kitten season is a thing of the past.
Cramar Cat Rescue and Sanctuary in Hopwood has already had a pregnant cat brought in and has said the time of litters being born only in spring is over.
Trustee Carole Lowe said biologically they would only have their kittens during the warmer months of the year to give them the best chance of survival but the increasingly warm winters have seen them born all year round.
After Nancy was brought in last week the sanctuary is urging owners to stop this from happening as their pens are already full with about 80 resident moggies and they also have a waiting list for cats needing to be brought into the centre.
Carole said: “We are so desperate for people to come and re-home these cats.
“We can already tell that poor Nancy has had a litter before and she has definitely had an owner.
“People do not realise that they can get pregnant as young as six-months-old and having such large litters is not a joy for them but quite the opposite.
“When the owners can’t get rid of the kittens, the kind ones bring them here and the others jump dump them somewhere. We are now full to bursting and people really need to hear the message to get their pets neutered.”
