Canal pumped to douse brickworks fire

Bromsgrove Editorial 26th May, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

A LARGE amount of rubbish caught fire near the Old Brickworks in Alvechurch.

In total four fire crews from Redditch and Bromsgrove attended the incident shortly before 5pm on Wednesday (May 21).

They found a large quantity of mixed waste alight in an open area and pumped water from the nearby canal to put out the flames. The fire was caused accidentally and had spread from a nearby bonfire.

Mick Cadman, group commander at Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said because of the amount of rubbish alight they were on site for about three hours and confirmed the fire had affected an area of around ten metres by five metres.
